Natasha Campbell – Connect Student Champion – School of Computing

What is your programme of study at the moment?

BSc (Hons) Computing Science

What made you decide to follow this area of study?

I’ve had a strong interest in Computing from High School which lead me to do a Foundation Degree in Computing and Network Systems at college.  This allowed me to undertake a work placement in Stormont, Belfast working alongside the IT department.  After realising this was something I thoroughly enjoyed in the classroom and in the work place I continued on to study for my Honours degree.

What has been your previous involvement with Connect?

Last summer I completed a summer internship with the help of Connect. I was able to attend two workshops in order to help me take full advantage of my experience as well as how to continue to make the most of my new and developed skills afterwards.  A visit to the Microsoft offices in Edinburgh allowed female STEM students to get a further insight into working for Microsoft along with steps to approach a career within this company.  I found this event extremely enjoyable and very insightful.

What do you see as your role as the Student Champion for Interconnect/Connect?

I see my role as an ambassador for the females in Napier, studying any STEM subjects.  By providing them with an insight on my personal experience and possibly helping them to take the first steps into further developing their own career path, I can provide a support network for all female students involved. Through a series of events and constant social media promotion, hopefully I can inform and assist as many students as possible about the work of Interconnect and the benefits it can provide for them and their careers.
